DeSerrano looking for continued success

South Buxton Raceway

By Mike Bennett
Denis DeSerrano started the season with a bang.
"Maybe we can end it with a bang," the veteran Cottam driver said after winning his third Tirecraft Comp 4 feature race of the season on Saturday night at South Buxton Raceway.
DeSerrano won both features on May 21 to open the 2011 season before finally returning to the Winner's Circle on Saturday.
In between DeSerrano's winning nights, however, only one other Comp 4 driver won a feature.
But Shawn Jones' amazing streak of 10 consecutive features ended Saturday when he crashed in a three-way battle for the lead just four laps into the 23-lap race. Jones finished 14th with his first DNF of the season.
Although he was happy to win, DeSerrano wasn't pleased in the manner in which he ended Jones' streak.
"I don't like gimmes," DeSerrano said. "I'd rather race him for the win.
"I like to beat him, but not that way."
Jones made contact with Chatham's Randy McKinlay at the start-finish in a three-car battle for the lead along with Kingsville's Norm DeSerrano – Denis' father.
"I didn't really see the whole thing, they butted tires but I don't know who got into who," said DeSerrano, who was running fourth right behind the incident.
The DeSerranos ran one-two for three laps before Denis passed his father for the lead on lap 8 and never trailed.
McKinlay got by the elder DeSerrano for second after a restart on lap nine but had nothing for the younger DeSerrano over the final 14 circuits.  To read more go to www.leamingtonpostandshopper.com.
