4-H News

4-H Christmas Crafts Club "Santa's Spies"
By: Jessica Scherer
On Wednesday, September 28, we held our first meeting of the Christmas Craft Club, at Mary's house. Once everyone was present we all stood up for the 4-H pledge, and then our junior leader, Jennifer, set up a little game called 'Gory Gulch'.
We were each assigned a part, so you had a choice of indians, cowboys, women, rifles, horses, stagecoach, and bows and arrows. Once Jen read your name you made a different sound effect that corresponded with you name.
After we played the game, we made candy cane reindeer. To do this we took two candy canes, and hot glued them together. Once the glue dried we wrapped red yarn around the ends of the candy canes. Once we reached a certain point we made a loop and glued the end together. Next week we will add on the finishing touches.
Once everyone completed the craft, Mary handed out a title page for our books and a paper that had all of our information on it. It was complete with all of the meeting dates, and things that we had to do to complete the club. We then voted on the name of the club. After many creative ideas, and tough choices we decided with the name "Santa's Spies". We also had a meeting Oct. 11 at Mary's house
4-H Spice Club
The sixth meeting of the 4-H Spice Club was a dinner at A-1 Chinese Restaurant in Essex. We were learning about spices used in Asian cuisine and styles of cooking (Szechaun, spicy Thai, curry, etc.).
When we got there we were given our new 4-H shirts from the association.
The buffet was open at the restaurant which is great because it's all you can eat (perfect for me). Mrs. Matthews ordered the spicy house special so that we could all try it.  To read more go to www.leamingtonpostandshopper.com.
