Transit users here will soon face a different route, one that will better serve the municipality, say town officials.

Last week Leamington council agreed with a report that will take the route to a linear style, rather than a circuit around the urban area.
The loop route is "contrary to the desire of riders" ,said engineering technologist John Pilmer, in his report. When traveling on a loop the rider is always an hour away from their pickup point when they reboard the bus.
But in order to keep the route still within the hour, the bus is not going to cover many of the areas that it does in the new linear system.
Basically, what the bus will do with the linear route is stay on the main streets in the urban area of Oak, Erie, Sherk and Talbot streets. The bus's starting point is from the operator's yard, CA Bailey on Seacliff Dr. East.
Another plus for bus users is that it will also operate through the noon hour. Pilmer said that was a request often heard from users. And for 2012 Pilmer said he will ask council to consider another move, that of adding an extra run after 5 p.m. so people can return home from work.
The transit has a ridership of about 15,000 annually and will cost about $115,000 to operate this year. Leamington uses some of the funds from its gas tax rebate from the province to help offset busing costs.  To read more go to www.leamingtonpostandshopper.com.
