MPP Pat Hoy says changes to Drive Clean
TILBURY—MPP Pat Hoy says changes to Drive Clean coming into effect September 1 will save families money and protect the air our children, grandchildren and seniors breathe.
?"All vehicles—cars, trucks and buses—less than seven years old no longer need to be tested when their registration is renewed," said Hoy. ""Drive Clean is an important tool in keeping polluting vehicles off our roads and keeping the air we breathe clean. This update reflects the cleaner cars and trucks that are on our roads today."
And, passenger cars, vans and SUVs also no longer need to be tested for the following:
• Transfer between family members.
• Coming off lease and being purchased by the person who was leasing the vehicle.
• Renewing registration after having passed a test in the previous year.
"It's important we all do what we can to keep our air clean for our children, grandchildren and seniors who are more vulnerable. Drive Clean plays a significant role in protecting our air and with these changes - it will save Ontarians time and money as well," said Environment Minister John Wilkinson.
• Vehicles plated as historic are now exempt from Drive Clean.
• Cleaner fuels, improved emissions technology and better vehicle maintenance are factors that make testing five-year-old vehicles unnecessary. To read more go to www.leamingtonpostandshopper.com.
